Frank Spillers, MS

Frank Spillers is passionate about getting down to the root cause of badly designed technology. He believes the problems end-users report are unknowingly created by technology driven approaches that undermine both user success and marketing goals. Frank received his Master's in Science (Cognitive Science) from Birmingham University, UK in the usability of Collaborative Virtual Environments. Frank has been recognized for his contribution to the field of Usability Engineering, contributing as a subject matter expert in Human Factors Engineering for the National Skills Standards Board (U.S. Dept. of Labor) and as one of 30 current leading experts in the field of task analysis (user research). His innovative technique for capturing user behavior was recently published in the Handbook of Task Analysis for Human Computer Interaction (Jan. 2004).

In 2001, Frank co-founded Experience Dynamics, a specialist usability consultancy based in Portland Oregon. Prior to Experience Dynamics he consulted as a usability and User Centered Design (UCD) specialist in Europe and across the US for companies including the Vanguard Group, Bank One, Land Rover, British Gas, Sony, HP, Intel and others. Previous to that, he led the usability consulting wing of Customer Experience Management and web analytics pioneer Web Criteria (now CoreMetrics).

Frank has refined eleven years of corporate usability experience across numerous industries and has been advancing the state of the art in the usability arena since 1995, where he worked with early pioneers of usability of Virtual Reality technology in the UK. He later worked in San Diego on software, hardware and large scale website interface design as an interaction design specialist.

Frank is an avid traveler and gourmet cook. He has lived in four different continents and is fluent in Spanish, German and Greek.
